...And a Happy New Year!

Hopefully the hangovers have subsided, the resolutions haven't been broken yet, and you all remember where you work.

Out here in Kansas, it's colder than a well digger's derriere, which is alright because it's a good environment to bundle up and hammer away at the checklist for Arkhangel: The House of the Seven Stars.

As Zack stated in the holiday update, we have a bunch of goals for 2018 (I didn't even bother with a personal resolution, because I knew these professional goalposts were going to be all-consuming!).

With artwork pretty much complete, and the overall structure of the game in place (I actually saw the ending in-game for the first time on December 21st, which is Winter Night, appropriately enough), my days are now all about playthroughs, bug reporting, lore writing, and dialogue polish.

Zack's really hitting it hard.  He took off the last couple of weeks of 2017 and worked on Arkhangel non-stop.  The professional sound designer is finally adding sound design to the game!  Yay!

And, as before, the Great Nameless is essentially a finished, complete tabletop board game.  We've had playable prototypes for almost two years, and we have been done with playtesting for quite awhile.  Now we just demo it.  Our decision was to hold off on the Kickstarter campaign until after Arkhangel: the House of the Seven Stars was released on the various distribution channels for Mac/PC.  We didn't want too much competition between the two products on our social media channels.  So if that's your jam, keep your eyes peeled and we'll start talking about it more and more after we get done with our point & click adventure!

Stay warm out there!

Happy Holidays from WNG!

Season's Greetings to you all!

We wanted to take a brief moment out of the insanity that has been this last year to give you all our heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the love and support you've been giving us.  Our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages have been on fire with new friends, likes, and comments.  2017 has been a big year for us and we really appreciate all of you.

Early in 2017 we announced that Arkhangel: The House of the Seven Stars would be released this winter.  That is true, but we have decided to push it from this December until later this winter (early 2018).  We have all of the primary game components completed.  The game loop is done.  All artwork is complete.  All systems are finished.  All cinematics are wrapped.  Josh and I are finishing up the final dialogue polish pass, I'm in the middle of the final audio design/mix sweep, and Chad is working away on the music score!  We just wanted to give the game a couple more months of polish and TLC before sending it to you all.

In terms of The Great Namelessall game design/artwork is done.  We are in the process of doing a big honking manufacturing and shipping cost analysis.  Once we have all of the figures solid and in place, we will be spinning up a Kickstarter.  Look for that mid-2018.

In the meantime, thank you again.  Please enjoy your holidays and look at this space and all of our social media outlets for news about our two projects.  Looks like 2018 is going to be monolithic!

Talk to you in the new year,

-Zack & Josh

Welcome to the new winternightgames.com!

Ahoy there!

As you can see, there have been a few changes here on the old webpage.  There are a few reasons for that.  First off, we decided we wanted to make things a bit cleaner and more streamlined than the old page.  It was starting to feel a bit clunky and unfocused.  Secondly, we were having some issues with the previous server; so we decided to get with the times and become part of the SquareSpace family!  We feel very fancy.

In addition to a new website we are making significant progress on Arkhangel: The House of the Seven Stars.  I (Zack) have been overhauling certain puzzle sections in the game, writing dialogue, tweaking animations, making sure the flow is feeling more and more natural as you progress through the game/story-arc, and building out cinematics.  Josh has been cranking out new inventory icons, vectorizing a ton of character skins, and writing lots and lots of cool lore that you'll be able to read and immerse yourself in.

In addition to that, we have started to get the first pieces of music from our good buddy Chad Seiter in the game!  I love this part of the process...it's when the game really starts to feel like it has its own voice and soul.  I'm very, very excited to have my friend on board for this journey and I'm excited for all of YOU to hear what he comes up with!

There's still plenty to do before we actually release this sucker, but the game is becoming more and more fleshed out everyday.  We can't wait for you to play it!

In other news, I've really been enjoying the Game Maker's Toolkit videos by Mark Brown on YouTube.  I highly recommend checking out Mark's videos.  They are well-informed, well-produced, make you think, and just a joy to watch.  In fact, this is a fairly relevant one for our little project!  Check it out:
