Oh, RL...

We've had a bit of a setback recently.  As we've said before, the entirety of WNG is 2 employees - both brothers. Our dad died a few weeks ago.

As one might expect, this threw the world into some turmoil for us.  While together on family business, we did get a few things done, and we've been putting a lot together in the time since.  We're pushing forward and we're working as hard as we ever have on anything in our lives, because we both know how proud he was of what we're trying to do.  In the history of the world, nobody has ever had more faith in an outcome than our dad did of our success.  In fact, the last time I saw him, I told him what we were working on, how things were progressing, and the goals we had for our projects.  He smiled, chuckled all throughout, and told me how happy he was that we were able to do something that filled us up the way this does.  He instructed us to "go get 'em."

So, with renewed purpose, that is what we intend to do.  We intend to pour all we've got into these games, and we think we're really doing great work.  We hope you love it as much as we do when we're done.  In the end, we know our dad would have.

And that's pretty much the greatest thing in the world, as far as I'm concerned.

This is all dedicated to you, Pop.  We love you.

Playtesting

Life has a lot to do with rules design, playtesting, revised rules design and more playtesting these days. Note: this is not a complaint. This is a good thing.

I guess I should start by introducing myself.

While Zack is the commander-in-chief of Winter Night's interactive division (with me being the head flunky), I am the great-and-omniscient-leader of the tabletop division (with Zack being lead gopher). We use the word "division" pretty loosely, as we have some pretty fuzzy lines around here, and we feel like we're more united than divided. But the point is, we bring different experiences and specialties to the table, and we've found that though these are a bit different, they're turning out to be complementary.

While up to this point we've been speaking in broad, vague terms, we do have some pretty big news coming up soon. We're just working out how to present it to you. News from both the interactive AND tabletop "divisions".

Fun times around here right now. Stay tuned, won't ya?

:)

Greetings from Winter Night Games!

Hi there!  This is the first official blog post from Winter Night Games!

"WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?!"

This might be a question that has sprung to mind.  Glad you asked!  My name is Zack and my brother is Josh.  We are two brothers that decided that we wanted to make games together.  The initial idea for our flagship game sprang from a short story idea that I was kicking around a number of years ago...We would chat about it periodically and think of cool characters, locations, scenarios, etc...but I could never put it in a story format that I really liked.  I don't consider myself to be a traditional writer, but I do know how to tell stories in different formats.

There was a point in 2012 when I was playing through some of the old Sierra On-Line point & click adventure games again and I thought to myself, "Man...I want to do a game like this".  My old short story idea immediately sprang to mind.  I gave Josh a call and gave him a rough outline idea of what I was thinking and he was on board.  The next year or so consisted of writing the story, rewriting the story, prototyping systems within Unity, and basically just figuring out what the hell this game was going to be.  In 2014, we started official "production".

Over the course of our writing stage, we discussed a few additional ideas for our "world" that we were creating and came up with a pretty cool idea for a second project that doesn't live within the digital gaming realm, but IS a part of the mythology that we have created.  It's super exciting.

We aren't completely ready to talk about what those two projects specifically are just yet, but we are getting very close.  In the meantime, both Josh and myself will be blogging here from time to time about what we are up to.  My primary focus will be the point & click adventure whereas Josh will be focusing on the OTHER project (he types ominously, mhuaahauahahahahahaaa!!).

Anyway, we are excited to share what we've been up to, so keep your eyes on this space!
